Ways to Get a Little ‘Me Time’ Into Your Day

We are all so busy running around living our daily lives. And new parents might have just a bit harder of a day than normal. Every minute of the day is about the baby, making sure baby is happy and safe. Everyone needs a few minutes a day just for themselves. When a baby is finally sleeping try to take at least 10 minutes to relax. The following are some easy ways to spend ‘me time’ when you have the time.

  • Meditate – It may sound a little crazy to meditate for only 10 minutes, but a little amount of time will help. Take a minute to close your eyes and clear your mind. Find a quiet place and do some deep breathing.
  • Work out – You can get a total workout in just 10 minutes. Working out daily will help you get back to pre-baby shape and will keep you energized for when baby wakes up.
  • Chat on the phone – 10 minutes won’t allow you to fully catch up with family and friends but it is a good way to quickly chat with friends. Spend a few minutes chatting, gossiping or venting about issues.
  • Massage – Ask your partner for a much-needed massage. Taking care of a new baby is very stressful and quick massage can help relieve some of those newly formed knots in your neck and back.
  • Have a nice treat – Eat a real meal. Instead of the constant snacking or eating only with one hand, take the time to make a quick snack or meal and sit down to eat in peace. Omelets, sandwiches, and smoothies are easy meals to make fast and they can also be healthy.
  • Journaling – Writing in a journal can be very therapeutic. When you are feeling overwhelmed, writing your feelings down on paper is a nice way to relieve some of that stress. Journaling is also a good way to remember all those little moments that may be forgotten with mommy’s brain.
  • Pampering yourself – While you won’t be able to get a full spa treatment in 10 minutes, you can allow yourself a few minutes to put on a face or eye mask to freshen up your face a bit. You don’t even have to go out and buy face masks. You can make them with stuff you have at home, like mixing oatmeal, yogurt, and honey. Then leave it on for about 10 minutes and wash off. This will rejuvenate and cleanse your face.
  • Turn on some music – Listening to some of your favorite songs on your iPod can be very relaxing. It can also put you in a better mood and give you a burst of energy. Make a 10-minute playlist to help get you through those times when you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed.
  • Shopping – You won’t be able to go to the stop but you can do a little online shopping. Order those few things you need for the house. Or buy yourself something nice that you have been wanting for a while. But remember not to go overboard when shopping.
  • Reading – Read a few chapters of that new book. Or look at the new fashion trends in a magazine. Reading is a nice escape from what is going on around you.

While we all want and feel like we need to take care of other, we still need to take care of ourselves as well. Take a little time each day to have a little me time. It will help calm your nerves a bit.
